About Emoji 3.0
Emoji 3.0 arrived in June 2016 alongside Unicode 9.0. Its additions spread across faces, gestures and people, animals, food, activities, objects and travel. The release also expanded modifier support, so many entries are fully-qualified skin-tone sequences rather than unrelated standalone symbols. The directory uses the version marker attached to each complete Unicode sequence, which keeps those variants with the release that defined them instead of classifying them from the age of one code point.
